Description
In this course the students will be introduced to the strata-cut animation technique. The course will have a workshop quality to it, there will be four classes and three assignments in total. The first assignment will cover scaling objects and figures, the second assignment will be about moving figures side to side or up and down, and the final assignment will be a rotating figure. These three simple notions are already enough to cover all the basic concepts of strata-cut and will give the students the tools necessary to animate almost anything they'd like.
We'll go over a bit of history of the technique and watch films that make an interesting use of it. Students will also be presented references that might not consist of strata-cut per se but have a somewhat similar logic to it.
A previous knowledge of the concept of frames is preferable. There's no need to know Dragon Frame or any other software. Students will be asked to bring their own plastic wrap.
