Embracing Digital Noise

This intensive course will be primarily a lecture and screening-based exploration of technological and digital "noise." Readings and screenings will cover the epidemic of lost focus, the predicament of misinformation and decay of verisimilitude, overstimulation in the online world, and issues of digital imaging. We will explore the previous issues largely in the context of reinterpretation, detailed critical analysis, and positive reconstruction through creative practice. Over the course of two weeks, we will investigate various modes of exploiting information over-saturation through screenings and readings of work focused on virtual information, and create a short film/video project. The short project can be an original one or one based on the appropriation of found digital material.
