Description

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are becoming increasingly prevalent in the rapidly evolving world of film production. This Winter Session course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to leverage these tools effectively and ethically in their artistic practice.

While we will touch on the state of AI applications for pre-production and production, our concentration will be on AI tools for post-production enhancements, including assisting with complex tasks like editing, color grading, and visual effects. The goal is to inform students about the possible ways AI can be used as a creative companion aid for their filmmaking.

However, with great power comes great responsibility. Therefore, a significant portion of the course will discuss the ethical considerations associated with using AI in filmmaking. Topics will include bias in AI algorithms, data privacy, the impact of AI on employment within the creative industries, and the potential for deepfakes and other forms of manipulation.

By the end of this course, students will not only be introduced to select AI tools for filmmaking but will also become aware of its ethical implications. This holistic approach ensures that students are prepared to navigate the future of film production responsibly and innovatively.
