Description
Named Primary Stimulus after a film by animator
and historian Robert Russett, this class meets
once a week, focusing on a single experimental
animator or artist working with animation in each
session. In class we will look at several films
and related material by that week's artist,
combined with some reading and discussion, as well
as occasional relevant works by other artists.
Although the class will not focus on having
artists in person, some artists may join us as
guests when possible. The goal of this class is
to provide an opportunity for a deeper and more
extensive exploration of the oeuvres of a diverse
and thoughtfully chosen selection of significant
animation artists, not only to create a space for
more in-depth engagement with their body of work,
but also to get a better sense of their artistic
identity, development, and trajectory.
