Description

Loop Loop is a course focused on looping and
repetition in art, film, and animation. Each week,
students will watch, discuss, and create animated
work that is either thematically structured
through repeating actions, words, and objects, or
is the result of a specific repetitive act. We
will seek to contextualize and broaden our
understanding of loops by unpacking theories
rooted in a range of disciplines, including
philosophy, neuroscience, and design. As the class
progresses, we will seek to answer questions like:
What potential is there in providing information
in a format that is meant to be watched multiple
times in full? How can repetition change an
audience's perception of time and meaning? What
separates the loops that are central to organic
life vs. artificial mechanization? Should we break
the loop? Are we controlling the loop or is the
loop controlling us?
