Description
This class will focus on maintaining individuality while working without absolute creative control. The class is designed to reflect a director-client relationship and other collaborative partnerships with uneven power dynamics. Students will learn to protect and champion their ideas and garner an increased sense of value and appreciation in their preferred artform. These lessons will be learned mostly through practice and then supported by critique and discussion.
This is a 7 week class. Each student will be expected to complete three "micro films" (15-30 seconds). Two of the films will have their own unique set of restrictions set in pre-determined hierarchical systems that allow students to exercise their skills as both director and directed. The third film is a personal project with parameters set by the student at the start of the semester. All films should be working with similar aesthetics and methods in hopes that students will gain a firmer grasp of their own artistic practice in a restricted environment..
Assignments are specific to this class. Project turnaround will be quick, so students should be comfortable with their preferred software and equipment.
