Description

PrePro: Creative Approaches to Pre-Production

Pre-production is an essential step in the
creation of a film. Whether it is a fictional
narrative with crew and actors, a non fiction
project, or a more poetic or structural
experimental film, video or installation, all
projects benefit from a creative approach to
planning.

To harness and guide students through the solid
planning of their film projects, this class will
consist of research, readings, presentations, and
a series of pre-production exercises. Exercises
will be project-specific and customized for each
student's individual project. We will integrate
writing (research, treatments etc.) and
previsualization modes (mood boards, character
design, storyboarding) as well as the logistical
steps involved in the making of a film.

In the first week of classes you will be expected
to come prepared with an idea about the project
you'd like to develop. The goal will be to have
all the necessary tools to dive right into the
production of your project by the end of the
semester.
