Description
A workshop that will look at essential working
elements of lighting for motion pictures. Starting
by analyzing different lighting styles in film
history, this course will then cover a range of
lighting practices in original locations and in
studio, looking at different light sources and
techniques. The student will be guided through the
conceptual process of designing a lighting plan,
selecting units and rigs for single and
multi-camera shoots. Through a series of in-class
lectures, workshops, and practical lighting
assignments, the student will gain a strong
working knowledge of specific aesthetics with
variables in controlling the various properties of
light (direction, exposure, color, saturation,
contrast ratios, and texture). Special emphasis is
placed on lighting for story and emotional impact,
with a focus on Genre and Period lighting.
