Description

Course available by permission of instructor only.

The objectives of this course are to learn how to
work with the moving image and sound in the form
of video installation. We will focus on creating
understanding through intentional relations
between content, space and scale. We will
contemplate the essential component of video
(time), the definitive condition of installation
(space), and how to work with them to create
kinesthetic insight: understanding on the level of
the body. Beginning with an overview of the unique
properties of video/film installation, the
projected image, and multi-channel works, we will
study how framing and duration contribute to the
form and experience of the installation. There
are screenings and assigned readings with written
responses. Each student will produce and exhibit
one video installation which they will work on for
the majority of the semester. Each student will
have one individual meeting. Students will be
given substantial time to present content and
ideas, pose questions, and receive thoughtful
feedback.
*Students with a current project in mind are
encouraged to enroll.
Open to Institute with priority given to Film
Students.
