Description
This filmmaking course explores the art and practice of recording sound for motion pictures.
With an emphasis on professional processes and standards, students learn to record sound on set, in studio, and in the field. The coursework is collaborative, hands-on, and covers an array of microphones, recorders, and techniques to capture dialogue/voice, sound effects, Foley effects, and spatial ambiences. In addition, students develop a more embodied understanding of cinematic sound design through deep listening exercises and a variety of in-class screenings. Altogether, this course supports First-year Films, and future productions, with recordings that allow for a creative sound design process instead of a corrective repair effort.
This class gives students access to Film / Video School sound equipment.
