Description

This is a course aimed to deepen filmmakers'
knowledge on the concepts and uses of the various
elements of cinematography; both technical and
conceptual. The class will focus on directorial
decisions regarding framing, camera movement,
depth of field, lighting styles and a variety of
other formal choices concerning image-making and
how they shape the discourse of each individual
work. We will mainly work with digital cameras and
formats with the objective of investigating their
specificity. The class will also address the
interconnectedness of pre-production, production
and post-production in digital cinematography, and
the ways in which our various uses of technology
inform our aesthetics as makers. We will discuss
set protocols and center our assignments on the
creative advantages of working with limited
resources. Finally, we will discuss different
modes and models of production, and the ways that
each implements and affects the development of
concept, process, and politics.
