An historical survey of documentary (or
non-fiction) tradition in motion pictures, with
special emphasis on the development of the
origins and development of cinema
verite, direct cinema and counter trends in
response to the theoretical claims of the
partisans of these two influential approaches.
And will trace the subsequent development in
technology, aesthetics approaches and evolving
subject matter in
the field. The course will cover the last
forty-five years of developments in documentary
or non-fiction film, from 1970- 2016.
