Description
A survey of experimental a.k.a. avant garde film
from the 1920's to the 1970's. Dominant
traditions to be examined include: Dadaist and
Surrealist cinema of the 1920's, Trance films and
Psychodramas of the 1940's and 50's, the
Mythopoetic cinema of the 1960's, and the
Structuralists of the 1970's. Eroticism,
narrativity, urban portrait, collage, and the
impulse teward subjectivity and diary are
additional themes forms and genres we will
investigate. Offered by Program in Film and
Video. May be repeated for credit.
