Description
Political cartooning is a vital element of a free
press in a democracy and contributes to the
critique of the modern political landscape.
Through an examination of the history of political
cartooning in the United States, as well as
specific cartoonists who have elevated the use of
visual language and metaphors in their work,
students will gain an understanding of this
important medium and its contributions to
democracy.
Additionally, students will learn how to create
cartoons that comment on social and political
issues, whether in multi-panel format, animation,
live-sketching or the traditional one-panel
format. Students will be encouraged to use their
skills in storytelling and design to produce
strong visual statements, as well as apply their
research in order to write knowledgeably about
this subject.
