Description
This course prepares the students' mindsets to explore rigs as a vital part of creating animated worlds, characters, and objects. Students will act out green screen performances with their bodies to study a hybrid approach to motion and choreography. Capturing motions with SLR cameras, students will map them onto 2D and 3D rigs within Aftereffects and Blender. While mastering the rigging fundamentals, students will reflect on how different bone constraints affect their choreography's forward and inverse kinematics. These principles could be applied and translated across multiple mediums, from handmade puppets, sets, and objects to 2D cutouts to digital assets, including scans and 3D sculptures and models. Over a series of lab demonstrations, workshops, individual projects, and assignments, students will explore the mechanics of locomotion rigging.
