Description
This course invites students to explore the concept of noise in AI art and filmmaking, transforming it from a perceived technical obstacle into a catalyst for artistic innovation. Through creative experimentation, we'll investigate how noise can become a powerful resource in moving image creation.
Students will engage with AI tools like Stable Diffusion, Adobe Firefly, and Runway to understand noise's crucial role in generating images. We'll examine how AI image creation often begins with random noise--much like visual static--and, through iterative refinement, transforms it into coherent visuals guided by prompts. Through hands-on projects, participants will manipulate noise within these tools to produce unexpected and original artistic outcomes.
The course includes critical discussions on the ethical implications of using AI in creative work, addressing issues like authorship, authenticity, and potential biases. By analyzing contemporary artworks that incorporate AI and noise, students will gain insights into emerging trends in digital storytelling.
By the end of the course, students will have developed practical skills in AI moving image creation and a deeper appreciation for the role of noise in art, empowered to harness the unpredictable nature of AI-generated noise, pushing the boundaries of conventional filmmaking and shaping the future of the medium.
