Description
Create powerful electronic music with Cal Arts synthesizers. Open to the institute (BFA 4 & MFA). We'll be listening to the works of Pauline Oliveros, Eliane Radigue, Wendy Carlos, Delia Derbyshire as well as Rob Hjordijk, Allen Strange, Todd Barton, Morton Subotnick, Don Buchla and Laetitia Sonomi. Key texts include Eliane Radigue's "Intermediary Spaces" and writings on parametric thinking. We will explore how to compose and perform music with societal impact. Students will have ample time to create and record their own music on some of the world's rarest synths and improvise solo or collaboratively. Through this immersion, students will develop both technical proficiency and an appreciation for the creative possibilities of electronic sound design, history, and live performance.
