Creative nonfiction is an artistic approach to writing nonfiction that uses the tools of fiction and poetry, invites experimentation, and defies the conventions of formal nonfiction. In this course we will be reading from a wide array of creative nonfiction, ranging from memoir and nature-writing, to cultural criticism and place-based writing, as well as hybrid forms and more. Through various writing exercises and assignments, students will experiment writing in various forms and will develop fully-developed writing projects of their own.
