Field Notes: Walking, Sitting, Looking

This class will focus on observational art and extended research projects. We will explore note taking strategies for working in the field and archival methodologies for expanded views of each student's self-selected projects. During the course of the semester we will walk and observe near campus, visit local wild sites and discover examples of field notes in local archives such as the photo collection at the Huntington Library. All class members will design and record their own field notes employing journal and bookmaking technologies. A journal or other form of field notes will be the resulting evidence of this semester long project.
