Description
In this course students will explore improvisation through movement and sound. Drawing from the styles of prominent experimentalists such as Pauline Oliveros, Roscoe Mitchell, Sarah Hennies, Simone Forti, Yvonne Rainer, and Merce Cunningham, improvisational environments will be developed that encourage idiosyncrasy, immediacy, and newness. As a new piece is improvised in the moment and the group grows into its own unique ensemble, the relationship between sound, movement, and space will be explored spontaneously. This course is open to the institution.
