There are 6 themes which students can select from to focus their work. Aotearoa (Indigenous New Zealand culture), Avant-garde, Open, Air, Myths and Legends and Neon. Works explored in this class are aimed toward a level of execution acceptable for submission to the competition but that is not a requirement to take the class.
