Description
This class will cover various musical concepts
from the Ewe and Dagomba people of Ghana, West
Africa. The class will focus primarily on
rhythmic concepts from these language groups. The
concept will be illustrated through traditional
repertoire, and students will reapply these
concepts to their own improvising and composing.
We will discuss topics such as: Poly-rhythm, call
& response, over the bar line phrasing, metric
modulation, lead drummers, drum language, etc. We
will also explore how these concepts can be
applied to odd meters
