Description
This course is a multileveled primer in melodic
improvisation through a series of structural prompts. Modes, scales and melodic concepts
like Maqam, Dastgah, Raga will be introduced and
compared. New theories like Harmolodics and
Chromolodics will also be explored. At the next
level, each student will take a deep dive into one
particular melodic system or mode. Melodic
research will be noted for its pedagogical,
emotional, philosophical and spiritual resonances.
The final project is a complete solo gig.
