Description
Teaching Artistry is a lecture class that will
focus on best practices of teaching. Through a
combination of demo lessons, video clips, field
observations, and discussion, participants will
explore various pedagogical approaches. Each of
these approaches will be engaged by students as
they write papers, plan and teach mini lessons,
and critique each other's work. In addition, the
course will cover creating lesson plans, creating
syllabi, creating a curricular map, assessment,
educational standards, reflection, project based
learning, arts-integration, and brain research as
it connects to music learning. First semester,
this course focuses primarily on the perspective
of a teaching artist, working in the K-12
classroom with students and teachers, as well as
various community settings. We will also discuss
how these ideas connect to various other teaching
opportunities such as: private lesson
instruction, university level.
