Description

The participants will form a chamber ensemble
(5-10 musicians) with open instrumentation. Every
member will play in the ensemble and contribute
with one piece of their own for us to develop,
rehearse and perform. This can be a fixed, notated
score, an open score, guidelines for
improvisation, a concept or a simple idea as
starting point for a collaborative creation.

When preparing/writing the idea/score prior to
Winter Session, have in mind that your piece
should be suitable for (or adaptable to) our final
instrumentation. As soon as we have an idea of who
will be in the ensemble, you will be informed what
instruments we have, so you can choose to adapt
your piece to the specific group of instruments.
Remember you can also choose to keep your piece
open to interpretation and not arranged for
specific instruments. Your idea/score should be
prepared prior to Winter Session and be ready to
bring to class for the group to work with during
the first week of Winter Session.

Week 1 in A300
Tuesday through Friday 1/9-1/12 2-5pm:
During the first week we will develop and rehearse
the pieces together as a group. Each member will
get one rehearsal session for their piece. If they
wish, they can lead and direct the ensemble, or
they can decide to open it up for collaborative
development.

Week 2 in ROD:
Thursday 1/18 1-5pm: Rehearsal and revision of all
the pieces

Friday 1/19 3-6.30pm: Set up and dress rehearsal
5pm Performance in ROD open for the CalArts
