Music of Korea: From Gugak to K-Pop

In this course, students will explore Korean
traditional and contemporary music cultures and
scenes. Topics will vary from traditional gugak to
recent music genres, including K-pop, indie music,
experimental music scenes, trot, and film music.
Students will look into sociological contexts,
compositional ideas, and performance practices
through weekly lecture, group discussion,
listening, reading, and creative activities.
