Description
This is class is designed as a critical inquiry
into the aesthetic, theoretical and political
implications of John Cage's music. In addition to
sustained encounters with several of Cage's
significant pieces it will look at the
implications of those works in the artist
products of others. There is a philosophy behind
Cage's work and we will attempt to trace some of
its lineage: from Thoreau and Sellars, through
Kant, to Bergson, Jankélévitch, Derrida, Deleuze
and Meillassoux.
