Description
This course will examine a variety of musical

analyze the political and historical context in
which the music developed. The focus will be on
the music of the Caribbean and Central America and
South America from traditional practices to urban
production.
This course aims to intertwine the artistic and
the political currents of Latin America in order
to explore the ways in which historical
events-such as colonialism, migration,
globalization, and political upheavals-have
affected music, and how music in turn has affected
political and social events.
It will analyze how the increasing speed of
technology has impacted the music of the region,
and how syncretism takes place within each
country, as well as regionally and in the world at
large.
