Description

In the Roundabout of Troubadours, Revolutions, and
Indigeneity: Music and Social Movements in Latin
America. Centered on social movements, this course
takes music culture as a starting point to explore
political ideology and collective mobilization in
Latin America in the present and throughout
history. It will discuss theoretical frameworks
and concepts that will open opportunities for
students to challenge questions of power and
inequality, and hegemonic ideas of progress and
development. The class integrates multimedia,
including invited lecturers and performers, and
intersects readings from ethnomusicology, history,
and anthropology.
