Description

This course focuses on interactive, procedural,
generative, and algorithmic methods of sound
creation. We will learn how to create systems of
sound and explore the various ways of interacting
and influencing them. Additionally, we will be
looking at the music of Tom Johnson, James Tenney,
and other procedural composers and learning how to
apply similar processes to our practice. Other
topics will include Markov Chains, Cellular
Automata, genetic algorithms, and other forms of
algorithmic sound. An introductory level of
programming experience is to be expected, whether
it be in Python, JavaScript, any C-like language
(ChucK), or Max/MSP.
