Description

This course takes music, photography and writing
together as a unified creative process. In fact
this is the combination in which recorded music
typically appears on recorded media or online (eg.
bandcamp) - but what are the ways that these media
can be regarded as equal parts of a whole and how
can resonance of music-photo-fiction can be
acknowledged, amplified or extended? This class
will answer the question through a series of
generative prompts for student work. At the same
time we will reflect on processes and models of
music-photo-fiction through the lens of work by
Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, Francois Laruelle, Joanna
Demers, Celer and Danielle Baquet-Long (Chubby
Wolf), Hanne Darboven, Laurie Anderson, Gregory
Whitehead, Os Mutantes, Marguerite Duras, Michael
Madsen, Ornette Coleman and others. We will unfold
the capacities of models created by these artists
and thinkers to create new works and methods.
