Description
This course is geared to students who are
interested in writing solo or ensemble vocal
music and who would like to learn more about how
the voice functions and how best to write for it.
Topics covered may include the functioning of the
voice as an instrument; standard voice types and
their ranges, tessitura and timbre; text setting;
conventional and extended notation; the use of
extended vocal techniques; and compositional
concerns and aspects unique to the writing of
vocal music. The course will include composition
projects.
