Description
The microtonal ensemble will focus on hearing,
playing, composing and improvising microtonally.
We will develop our skills by looking at and
playing contemporary pieces in a range of tuning
systems, by improvising as a group, and by writing
our own works for the ensemble. The ensemble will
be open to instrumentalists, singers and composers
and to other music majors interested. We will look
at tuning systems in just intonation as well as
equal divisions of the octave, and scales in
traditional music from non-Western cultures.
