Description
An Ensemble Dedicated to Historically Informed
Performance Practice on Baroque Instruments
Students will be immersed in weekly rehearsal and
performance of repertoire from the 17th and 18th
centuries on Baroque instruments, gaining
experience with historical tunings, phrasing,
articulation,
ornamentation, and other elements of Baroque
performance practice. In addition to learning and
performing repertoire, topics discussed will
include phrasing that is sensitive to bass lines
and
harmony, mean-tone temperaments, historical pitch
standards, discussion of rhetorical figures in
Baroque composition, text-based articulation, and
ornamentation.
