Description
In this course, students will learn basic
performance techniques of the haegeum (a
two-stringed instrument of Korea): bowing,
fingering, jangdan (rhythmic pattern), jo (modes),
and Korean music notation. Repertoire will include
classical pieces, folk songs, contemporary works,
and improvisation. Furthermore, students will
explore the unique sounds of their own and perform
improvisation in class. The haegeum will be
provided by the instructor for each student.
