Description
Open to BFA3 and BFA4 students only.
Where does human perception leave off and the
object begin? Can we know the substance of the
artistic object, or are we dealing with mental
representations of it? What can art itself know?
How does it connect with the 'great outdoors' if
at all? We will explore these questions through
the lens of two books: Nihil Unbound by Ray
Brassier and After Finitude by Quentin
Meillassoux, along with articles by Frantois
Laruelle, Alain Badiou and Gilles Deleuze.
Students will write a term paper, applying the
concepts developed in the class to an artist or
work. The papers of the first term will be the
basis for the second term.
