Bach and Beyond: Rethinking Bach

This course is designed to develop a deep and
meaningful understanding and appreciation of JS
Bach, the man, the myth and the music. There will
be guided listening in and out of class,
as well as reading of materials from Bach's time
along with later commentaries. Weekly discussions
will go "Beyond" to explore modern-day
perspectives of "rethinking, reinventing and
reimagining" Bach as well as students own
perceptions. Papers written by students will be
distributed to the entire class in order to learn
from one another and create a sense of community.
