Description

Technology is blurring the boundaries that have
traditionally separated artistic disciplines
resulting in the proliferation of mixed- media
projects throughout the art world. Many of the
emerging technologies, such as machine learning,
projection mapping, and wearable interfaces, are
turning artists into exploreres as they uncover
the nuances of such technoloiges.

Lead by faculty and alumni from the Schools of
Dance, Music and Integrated Media /Art, this class
will function as an interdisciplinary laboratory.
Participants will work together to realize a
performance, installation or experience using a
handful of selected technologies. Guiding this
process will be playful exercises that are
intended to inspire mind and body to work together
in harmony. The culmination of our efforts will be
an experience that utilizes sound, movement visual
art and technology in unique ways, and that lays
the foundation for future collaboration during the
CalArt EXPO.

The ideal participant for this lab is
self-motivated and has a strong individual
artistic practice from which to contribute to the
whole. Participants should be prepared to dive in
and experiment through dance, music, and
interactions with technology. The list of
available technology includes, but is not limited
to, laptops, projectors, microcontrollers,
cameras, and wearable sensors.
