Decolonization, Indigenization, and Your

...Art Practice

Fueled by the climate crisis and BLM, social and
environmental justice movements have gathered
momentum over the past few years, with calls to
decolonize and Indigenize various sectors of
society increasing in volume and urgency. Working
with established Indigenous artists from various
métiers as co-instructors, this course will
explore the following question: How does an artist
decolonize- and perhaps Indigenize- their art
practice?

Using their own representative works as an entry
point, visiting artists/faculty will delve into
their process and praxis to provide critical
insights into the above question. Students will
also read literature drawn from art and Indigenous
studies, incorporating what they've learned into a
culminating project or paper centered on their own
art practice.
