Description

This class is a series of in-class activities, readings, and improvisational assignments worked on outside of classroom hours that will be performed and discussed in class. Movement Improvisation is designed to introduce first year students to the world of improvisation. Students will focus on improvisation and movement invention in order to serve their choreographic projects. We will take multiple avenues into accessing movement improvisation: sourcing the body (anatomical), sourcing outside the body (architecture/nature/visual information), dancing with music and cameras, as well as practicing improvisation in performance in solos and ensembles. This is a 2 credit course.
