The Magic of Movie Music

Are you an aspiring director who is passionate about crafting the perfect soundtrack for your film or video game, but are unsure of how to communicate your creative vision to a composer? Or perhaps a composer looking to write music for the big screen? This is the course for you! Film scoring is more than just composing music - it's about working as a team. In this course, students from different departments will learn how to effectively communicate and collaborate with each other (composers directors, editors, sound designers, and animators and anyone else in the filmmaking world) to create music that enhances the narrative and emotional impact of a film. Through analyzing existing film music, having lively discussions with one another, and doing activities in the classroom that simulate real-world conversations between the film and music departments, students will explore the workflow of film music and develop a palette of tools to take into their future collaborative projects.
