Previsualization Techniques

The focus of Previsualization Techniques is to help students develop their ideas, style, and communication before beginning production work. We will explore how ideas are shaped and conveyed through different artistic processes and containers. An aim of the course is to find and follow one's internal compass, to better locate what individually feels most important to the artist and how to best express this through the work. There will be a range of assignments that provide approaches to organizing concepts, physical methods of thinking through ideas, and preparing materials that can best convey the idea behind a work in progress. We will look at the different ways artists conjure and communicate through choices of technique, style, medium, context, and composition. The class will involve creative workshops, screenings, film analysis, and student presentations. Students will be given substantial time to present ideas and receive feedback. This class is especially geared for pre-thesis students who are actively finding and honing their artistic interests, working methods, and concepts.
