Description

This is a writing course for MFA-level filmmakers. It’s a generative, process-driven class in which students explore a variety of approaches to writing for the screen and will have a small portfolio of short works by the end of the semester. It’s not a project-based class in which you workshop a single idea, nor is it a primer on film industry screenwriting theory or practice, though some of those principles will be touched upon briefly for practical purposes. Instead, our focus will be on questions of technique, structure, time/rhythm, research/observation, representation, opacity, memory/haptics, collaboration, ethics, and more.
