Description
Alternative Screen Printing Techniques provides an introduction to hand-based screen printing as an alternative to digital methods. While digital printing may be more convenient, this course emphasizes the tactile process of creating stencils by hand. Whether using positive or negative stencils, the goal is to "block out" areas on the screen, allowing ink to pass through the remaining open sections and create prints.
Throughout the course, students will explore a range of stencil-making techniques and materials, including paper, acetate, contact paper, tape, commercial block-out, wax crayons, oil pastels, resist methods, tusches, and photograms. The course emphasizes experimentation and improvisation as well as combining techniques to discover new outcomes. Students who enroll must have taken the mandatory Print Lab orientation and paid the required lab deposit to use the space before signing up for this course.
