Description

Only students from the School of Dance and the
School of Film/Video are eligible to enroll.

CineDance is a production-oriented course that
motivates the creative collaboration between
choreographers and filmmakers. Dance and
Film/Video students will work in pairs to produce
two One-week Films and one Final Film project.

This course focuses on exploring the shared
languages of dance and film- movement, space and
time- and the compositional strategies common to
both. Learning from each other's artistic
processes, students will build the foundation of
a movement-based filmmaking process that pushes
the boundaries of dance films and narrative
films, alike. Students will learn how to compose
cinematic scenes that communicate stories through
the movement of the bodies inside the frame, as
well as the movement of the frame itself.
Emphasis will be put on storyboarding movement
sequences, encouraging students to indulge in
composing choreographies that can only be
possible on the cinematic screen.

For the production of their film projects, all
students will be expected to participate as
filmmakers and performers and will develop skills
and knowledge across the two disciplines.
