Description
New Media in Performance introduces students to
inter-disciplinary practices that combine digital
media with live performance. The course will
focus on the use video, projection and
interactive media within performance.
New Media in Performance contextualizes the
integration of digital media with performance
through a series of lectures examining
inter-disciplinary digital/live performances from
the 1960s to today. Pieces covered in this
overview will include works by Merce Cunningham,
Bill T. Jones, The Wooster Group, Troika Ranch,
Susan Broadhurst, Sarah Rubige and Robert Lepage.
Studio activities and a group project will give
students the opportunity to experiment with
digital media alongside dance, theatre and
performance art. The instructor will provide a
variety of digital interfaces that students will
use to create short works that combine digital
and live performance.
