Dance on Film Screenings and Readings

This is a screening class. In Dance Film Images
we'll watch and discuss a wide range of dance on
screen, including the works of early experimental
filmmakers, dance in musicals and narrative films,
what's showing on dance film festivals now, the
boom of the dance film in the 90's, documentaries,
music videos, etc. Students will discover through
example the possibilities and strategies that the
camera offers, as they broaden their dance film
language, analysis and understanding. Readings
will be given weekly in relation to the theme of
the screenings and students will be asked to
respond in writing reflecting on the screenings,
the in-class conversations, the papers offered and
their point of view as makers
