Description

This movement class will further develop dancers'
and actors' investigation into Movement for
Performance. Students will meet once a week,
coupled with outside work led by dance instructor,
Julie Bour and theatre movement instructor,
Anthony Nikolchev, in an advanced class that digs
into the cross-over territory between dance and
theater. The students will enter the work from
their backgrounds as performers, and the class
aims to define tools and deficits from either
discipline - from dance to theatre - as origin
points and goals posts when making physically
driven work. In merging the two trajectories from
the two general different starting points, the
class hopes to identify and begin to create the
360-degree, 4-dimensional movement based
performer.

Methodology:
Led by two instructors and professional movement
practitioners - one dance and one theater - the
students will be led through the creation process
of a short movement based performance.
The students will be responsible to develop their
own process by demanding outside work, to prepare
material for each week based on creation prompts
and provocations driven by the instructors.
They will be exposed to the meeting between a
dance devising process and a theatre devising
process for movement based performance. They will
witness where the two intersect and where the two
collide in order to define and create their own
versions of movement-based performance.
