Description
Artist as Educator: Pedagogy, Planning, and
Practice.
Participants will learn how to effectively and ethically engage with the diverse communities of K-12 students-including English Learners and students with special needs-as artists and educators. This course aims to provide you with tools to better engage with youth participants in and out of formal educational settings to foster an environment of creativity, criticality, and equity. Student-centered learning, project-based teaching, inquiry-based pedagogy, theories of child development, social emotional learning, as well as trauma-informed pedagogy will be explored. We hope to provide you with the tools, practice, and exposure to the field of arts education to guide you in a career as an artist-educator. All sessions will include lecture, discussion, and participatory activities.
