Description

This course is a feminist exploration of
materialism. In recent years feminist thought has
turned to matter as a site of political urgency,
agency and aesthetics. This course asks, what does
feminism has to do with matter and materiality? We
consider the long history of feminist engagement
with questions of the body, objects, environments
and labor. We look to ways that material
conditions of life have informed feminist
political, philosophical and aesthetic outlooks.
While we explore historical legacies of feminist
thought, our focus will be on contemporary debates
about the agency and vitality of matter in human,
post-human and non-human forms.
